One thing I learned in Yoga Teacher Training was that mid-winter (New Year’s) is not the most logical time to set demanding Resolutions. During this time of year, we are wanting to relax, stay warm inside, and indulge in yummy holiday treats. While it is important to WANT to improve our lives, it is also crucial to set these intentions from a place of love and patience.
For a few years now, I have chosen to set “intentions”, instead of “resolutions”. Each lunar cycle, I go through my goals and decide what to focus my attention on. Instead of setting resolutions (implying that I am a project that needs to be resolved), I set less intense intentions that can change and alter throughout different seasons of the year. This has really helped me and allowed me to not feel as pressured to perform or “fix” something within myself.
Some of my 2018 Intentions in no particular order are:
-
Practice Yoga. I vow to practice daily, in some form or another.
-
MEDITATE and practice pranayama often.
-
Be MORE active. Whether this entails walking, hiking, swimming (I have missed it) and even running, I intend to practice more cardio.
-
Blog more. I am not always the most consistent, but I am hoping to blog 1-3 times a week this year.
-
Finish HEALING YOGA: Vol 2 and create Volume 3.
-
Live in the present. Enjoy every moment staring at, holding, rocking, and obsessing over Baby Bear.
-
Be creative.
-
Love and respect myself, thoughts, actions, intentions, and those around me.
As the days and months go on, I will probably adjust these goals to what I need and how I feel. That is why my intentions are not “to lose the baby weight” or “workout 3 times a week.” I want to live and improve from a place of POSITIVITY and kindness towards myself.
Here’s to 2018 and a year of bringing love into all we do!
